Bob-32 Rme Breakout Box

Brand: RME, model : BOB-32

RME BOB-32 Description

This is one of those products that solves a frustrating problem in very elegant and satisfying way. Given its superb versatility, solid construction and elegance of design I was expecting a scary price, but actually the BOB32 doesn't cost much more than two professional-quality breakout looms. Internally, each group of eight XLR is connected to its respective d-sub via a ribbon cable, and the motherboard has two PCB sockets for cable: one configures aes59 wiring format, while other provides Yamaha format. Hopefully, the existence of aes59 will resolve that over time, but at moment there are least four incompatible manufacturer-specific formats provide stereo channels running in each direction.

So I was overjoyed to discover that the BOB32 is hinged in middle and can be folded both XLR d-sub panels end up on front of patch bay. The latter are orientated for digital I o in alternating groups of four female and male connectors, but it can be used analogue as well via XLR sex-changers. However, in my line of work I often need to swap both XLR and d-sub connections, scrabbling around the back a rack isn't idea fun.

Utter genius. Simple d-sub to cables not supplied are required connect multi-channel devices the BOB32, and XLR can then be used access signals as. Brilliantly useful though this simple arrangement is, the BOB32 has more to offer. Two metal plates are supplied which screw onto the case in different places to hold it rigidly either as a straight front-back panel, or folded front-front panel.

Ta scam, Sadie, RME and avid all comply with aes59, but Yamaha apogee use a different configuration, legacy gen ex Phoenix equipment employ two further arrangements. However, although the analogue version has been embraced universally for many years, with eight balanced inputs or outputs running in a single 8-way loom, same is not true digital I o configurations. RME BOB32 universal breakout box virtually every professional audio device that has multi-channel analogue or digital interfaces adopted the 25-pin d-sub as most space-efficient connector: mixers, preamps, interfaces, consoles its found so ubiquitously now even Ase finally recognised need for a formal published standard. Changing from one to the other involves undoing three screws remove case lid, releasing a spring clip, moving ribbon header plug, and refitting clip lid it takes couple of minutes is trivially simple perform.

This rack-mounting passive patch-bay features a pair of 25-pin d-subs on one panel, and 16 XLR the other. Hugh rob johns. Some people need to swap d-sub connections for different devices rather than XLR, and the BOB32 makes that very easy because both front back panels have rack ears, allowing it be installed in either orientation XLR at front, or d-subs. So for anyone needing to integrate a Yamaha console digitally with an RME interface, example, this is very neat and flexible solution.

If required, one half of the BOB32 can even be set for an aes59 connection format and other Yamaha arrangement. Both ta scam-to-ta scam and Yamaha-to-ta scam d-sub cables are available. The BOB32 is neat, tidy, completely removes tangled breakout lead confusion and, if you often need to swap connections regularly, provides easy access and a solid base in rack pull push against. With all that in mind, I recently got quite excited to discover RME have brought some welcome rationalisation the potential nightmare of incompatible breakout cabling, form BOB32.

But that's still not all. The aes59 specifications designate pin-outs and applications for both eight-channel balanced analogue aes3 digital audio interfaces, are, thankfully, identical to original ta scam arrangement.
